Alister left college with an HND in Business Studies and spent his early working years within the corporate finance industry. In the early 1980s he joined Scottish Amicable Life Assurance Society as a consultant which was the grounding for the development of his knowledge and experience within the life assurance industry.
In 1986 he joined forces with a practising independent financial adviser and by 1990 they had created an extremely successful financial services practice. In 1990 Alister and his then partner expanded the business by bringing in three new partners which included his brother Christopher. In 1993 Christopher and Alister left and formed what is now Mellor Associates Limited, trading as The Financial Management Group. Over the years Alister has developed a wealth of experience and knowledge within the financial services industry and like his Co-Director and Brother, he continues to develop his knowledge by attending many seminars and courses relating to specific areas of financial services.
His personal interests are very sports related and he is active both in running, tennis, golf and squash. He is a keen rugby supporter and has been a season ticket holder at London Wasps in High Wycombe for several years. From time to time Alister also undertakes charity challenges, the latest being the Rugby Wooden Spoon Lakeland Challenge which involved canoeing the length of Lake Windermere (2½ miles), a 26 mile cycle over England’s steepest road pass and finally conquering Scafell Pike by navigating an 8½ mile route from Wasdale Head to the Langdale Valley in the Lake District!!
